June Plant of The Month: Anthurium Magnificum

Our plant of the month for June lives up to its scientific name. The Anthurium Magnificum is a truly magnificent plant variety. Of the many anthurium species and hybrids out there, Magnificum is easily identified by its four sided petioles (the part of the plant that connects the leafs to the stem). Although they produce flowers, these plants are collected for the beautiful foliage, which have a light, shiny metallic iridescent color when viewed in the correct light conditions. This is very vibrant green plant that adds a refined jungle vibe to interior spaces.

Magnificum is easy to grow indoors or outside. Provide it with medium to bright indirect light indoors for optimal results. Outdoors medium light with some shade is best. Water when the top few centimetres of the soil are almost dry, but do not let the soil completely dry out. If the plant is dormant (not actively growing) let it dry out a little more before watering.

We have not had any problems with insects but recommend watching out for fungal and bacterial diseases. The best way to deal with this is to use a preventative anti fungal spray, which you can obtain from most nurseries or hardware stores. Do not overwater the plant or place your plant in a location with overly high temperatures, as this can promote the spread of fungal disease. Ensure the plant is in a location that has good air circulation, which also helps prevent issues with fungal disease. Do not place your plant directly in the path of air conditioning. Although some online sources recommend misting the leaves, we find this is unnecessary in our tropical environment and might even cause issues with fungus. Unless your location has low humidity we don’t recommend misting.

Anturio Magnificum

Nuestra planta del mes de junio hace honor a su nombre científico. El Anturio Magnificum es una variedad de planta realmente magnífica. De las muchas especies e híbridos de anturios, el Magnificum se identifica fácilmente por sus pecíolos de cuatro lados (la parte de la planta que conecta las hojas con el tallo). Aunque producen flores, estas plantas se recolectan para el hermoso follaje, que tiene un color iridiscente metálico claro y brillante cuando se ve en las condiciones de luz correctas. Esta es una planta verde muy vibrante que agrega un ambiente refinado de la jungla a los espacios interiores.

Magnificum es fácil de cultivar en interior o exterior. Bríndele luz indirecta de media a brillante en interiores para obtener resultados óptimos. Al aire libre, la luz media con algo de sombra es lo mejor. Riegue cuando los primeros centímetros del suelo estén casi secos, pero no permita que el suelo se seque por completo.
