We get asked a lot which plants are suitable for low light interiors, and specifically bathrooms in Costa Rica, so we’ve compiled a list of plants that we feel are best suited to this living space in our homes.
While these plants listed below are very tolerant of low light, they are still live plants and therefore need a certain quantity of light in order to grow and remain alive. If you have no windows in your bathroom, you will have to either take your plant out of the bathroom for a few hours of light every day, or use supplemental lighting that you can have shining on the plant in the bathroom.
Here's is our list of top 5 bathroom plants!
Snake plant (Sansevieria/ Dracaena trifasciata))

While this common house plant often gets overlooked, the snake plant is just about the most resilient house plant out there, and can tolerate a host of climates and conditions. This plant has recently been reclassified from Sansevieria to Dracaena trifasciata. Snake plants don’t need frequent watering, approximately once every 1-2 weeks, depending on where you live, sometimes even watering only once per month during the humid rainy season! Snake plants will grow in virtually any soil you give it, but as always, we like to treat our plants right and give them our premium potting soil! Snake plants tolerate being root bound, so you won’t need to worry about repotting it all the time. Lastly, snake plants are actually quite attractive house plants when paired up with the right pot, such as terracotta or a modern looking white or black pot. The clean lines and shapes of the snake plant leaves can add a modern look to any space.
